Help with education and employment costs

Universal Credit Universal Credit is a benefit payment for people under Pension Credit age. It provides one payment for housing, employment, children and income.
Personal budget This is available to children and young people with an Education Health and Care Plan (EHCP). It can be spent on education, social, and health care services. 
Disabled students allowance Disabled Students’ Allowance (DSA) is for those studying at university. It can support people who have a mental health problem, long-term illness or any other disability.
16-19 Bursary Scheme -  Newcastle City Council 16 to 19 bursary funds are there to help students remain in education. You can apply for funding if you meet the criteria. You will also need to agree to standards of attendance and behaviour with your school.
Blind person's allowance Blind Person’s Allowance is an extra amount of tax-free allowance. If employed, it means you can earn more before you start paying Income Tax.
Access to work

For people with a physical or mental health condition or disability. You can apply for:

  • a grant to help pay for practical support with your work
  • support with managing your mental health at work
  • money to pay for communication support at job interviews
