Further Education

Any studies or training after age 16 (apart from studying at university) is called further education. It is useful for building knowledge, skills and experience for a specific job or career.

Young people must do further education between the ages of 16 and 18. This can be either:

  1. full time study with a school, college or training provider
  2. an apprenticeship or supported internship
  3. full time work or volunteering (20 hours or more) alongside part-time education or training

There are many courses, qualifications, and subjects to choose from. Some offer hands-on work experience. Others are just for people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).
