Employability support from Year 9

Preparing a young person for work starts with increasing independence. This is why from nursery we:

  • use a support plan based on the child's needs
  • understand what matters to them
  • use short-term and long-term goals and aspirations.

From Year 9, there is an increased focus on employability. The information further down shows the ways a young person can be prepared for employment.

Speak with your school or Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCO) to find out more.

What employability support looks like

  • skills
  • abilities
  • interests
  • support needs

Think about future options through the schools careers, education and guidance programme.

Year 10

Explore future options which may include:

  • vocational profile
  • planning work experience

Year 11

  • Arrange work experiences based on vocational interests.
  • Plan post 16 education or training. Look at providers that can deliver this.
  • Ensure support plan includes future aspirations.

Consider:

  • Further or higher education
