Parents and carers are responsible for getting their child to their school or educational setting. However, this might be difficult if their child has:
- a special educational need (SEN)
- a physical disability
- a medical condition
- problems managing their behaviour and staying safe
Newcastle City Council has a duty to assist with transport if a child has SEN. This assistance could be:
- a travel permit for public transport
- a Personal Travel Budget (PTB)
- independent travel training
- suitable transport to and from school in a mini-bus, people carrier or taxi
Our SEND Travel Support Team will decide the most appropriate travel support for a child or young person. This will be based on their needs.
